We're off to get a Permit?

While the adventurers were in Red Lagoon they observed that Todd McWert going into the Blink Sloth Pub. Wanting to question the young man they followed him. It turned out that Todd had an appointment with the waitress Elaine. Curious Worm snuck up the room the couple entered and listened in. What was thought to be a romantic endeavor was really a music lesson.

Todd was approached by the party afterwards and they invited him for a drink. They explained to the young man their concerns which was met with mutual understanding. The man told them that his father wanted to start a tobacco farm in Gadarn however the officials have not been so kind to him and have disapproved of his acquisition of a permit. Todd admitted that his dream was to go to Opaline’s School for the Artistically Gifted, but since he was the oldest son in the family it looked like that would not happen. Jane, his sister, would not be a proper person to pass the business to because of her airheadedness.

After thanking Todd the party decided that their next stop should be Vox, Gadarn to see what the hold up was with that farming permit. The journey was very uneventful. When they arrived in Vox the first thing the group set out to do is to find an inn. Luckily there was one close by Willow Fyre Inn, which was to have excellent bathing facilities that Oswald was in dire in off.

Inside the busy establishment was Michael Fyre the halfing owner and running around serving drinks was his very pregnant, extremely grumpy daughter Cindy, who yelled at individual party members. While resting Neblin at the fire, Zaratash drinking, Worm and Oswald making friends with a pair of orc mercenaries Rock and Gertrude, and Rey drinking at the bar after trying to be nice to Cindy. A middle aged woman strolled into the bar with pupil-less eyes, but she seemed to know where she was going. She introduced herself as Lia Shiner, an oracle by profession. Worm and Oswalk asked if they could have their fortune read and she was more than happy to provide. When the bones were rolled they stayed on their sides, which Lia commented has never ever happened before.

It was at this time when Zaratash became to take notice to a small group at a near by table. He became slightly alarmed when one of the people’s eyes began to change color with her mood. The woman was an Inspired One and to make matters worse she was looking for him. A few moments later Lia asked the group to go upstairs. If they had to escape she and her mercenaries would make sure they got out. Unfortunately the Inspired One had already had reinforcements, hobgoblins, outside waiting for them.

A huge battle took place in the inn and they won with no loses. The Inspired One was blown up by Rey and her companions were taken to the basement for questioning. They learned from a letter that Zaratash’s uncle had found something and now him and Zaratash were now in danger by a person named Secora. Lia gave the party a ring with a owl eating a snake and told them if they saw this symbol again the bearers can be trusted. She left the inn with Rock and Gertrude in tow.

In the morning the party headed to the Gnomical Hall of Records. They met with Gear Nettlebottom who informed the party that the reason for permit denial was that the water source that Mr. McWert wanted to use was in violation of several codes. If the plantation owner wanted to relocate the source it would cost him a couple hundred gold pieces to do so. The group decided to pay the cost, get the permit, and there fore everyone’s problems would be finally solved!

Ah Shit...We're the Chosen Ones

After a long night without being disturbed the group decided to continue to the Mushroom Cave. Kiwi had told the group that to get to the cave they must pass through a swamp filled with watery dangers. Unfortunately while Oswald ran ahead clanking he attracted some unwanted attention and it didn’t really help that he stepped on a crocodile nest. Mother was near by of course. From a distance Worm and Zaratash could see a large crocodile attempting to take a bite out of their heavily armored friend. The rest of the team were quickly alerted. The sound of their battle however attracted even more attention as two large rolling fungi tried to eat out adventurers.

It turns out that the crocodiles and fungi bit off more they they could chew and were dispatched. The adventurers did suffer heavily. Kiwi told them that he knew a safe place they could rest and recover. The group took him up on this offer.

The next day the adventurers finally reached the cave. Worm thought he saw the crystal dragon Rix, that was said to live there, but the figure was gone by the time he turned the corner. The aeon charged forward leading the group through the tunnels, that were covered in moss, glowing mushrooms, and rose quartz crystals, to a large geode with a glittering pink crystal jutting out of it. Oswald, Neblin, Rey, and Worm all gathered around the shard while Zaratash and Shad hung back. As soon as it was touched it splintered and shattered embedding shards in the skins of the adventurers, who were not fast enough to dodge them. Strangely enough the shard melted away in the skin and their wounds closed up. The aeon disappeared without a trace and all that was keft in the geode was 3500gp of small diamonds.

They tracked down Rix, who told them that the crystal had been touched before, but it never did what it did to them. He also mentioned a Foo Lion had taken up residence in the cave. Because the creature never bothered him, he never had any reason to go after it. The group tracked down the strange animal, who introduced himself as Fire. His creator had wanted them for some reason though he himself did expect people like them. All Fire told them is that they should go to a fortune teller.

Fire offered to take them back to Red Lagoon. So they all left the cave Rix telling them about the rainbow crystals from other caves that were on McWert’s land. They also heard from their employer when they go back to town that House Cannith was now heading to Red Lagoon for reasons unknown.

The only fortune teller in town was Annabel Weatherbottom, who agreed to to a tarot reading for them. The woman decided to do a past present future reading, but as she was doing them the cards…every third card she tried pulling for each person was blank. The deck itself was not magical.

Oswald drew the following cards

Hanged Man- A suffering was due. An involuntary sacrifice. A penalty which may be warranted due to misdeeds, or unwarranted due to uniqueness and difference. Annabel said it was related to blood that was spilit for his god probably.

Tower- Ambition leads to conflict and strife. A tower is built high into the air — a symbol of personal drive and ego. Goals lie in conflict with poweful surrounding forces, and forces of nature. Because of all the blood and killing there now may be complications and conflicts due to his past actions.

Worm’s cards,

Empress- Beauty and happiness combined in a spiritual state of sensual pleasure and opulence. A state of bliss and enjoyment. The sweetness of success. Annabel said this might be a number of things, but she attributed to maybe Worm’s success and talent in alchemy. It is or at least was a true enjoyment in his life.

5 of pentacles- A basic limitation comes into play which cannot be avoided. A financial shortfall or lagging performance. A physical ailment which slows progress. Alchemy might be a true calling for Worm however because of his race there are limitations on what people let him achieve.

Zaratash’s cards

5 of wands- A competition had gone bad. Opposing forces grow in power and achieve victories against you. To be surrounded by opponents. A long-time adversary may be on the scene. Annabel saw people or some type of situation going after him in his past.

King of Wands- An intellectual person. A course of action requiring careful analysis. Nothing rash or unplanned. A man of wisdom and learning. A teacher. Someone recently had helped Zaratash’s escape was because of this or several individuals such as this.

Neblin’s cards-

3 of Swords- Sadness and tears. Differences were not reconciled. A dispute or wrong ruled the day. A time of deep emotion and sadness. A period of mournful contemplation over a loss or mistakes made. Annabel told Neblin there may have been a choice that caused this sadness and there is still some type of conflict within him because of this.

10 of Wands- Forces are keeping you down. Freedom and liberty are trapped beneath the heel of a greater force. A job grinds on without advancement. Hard work is not rewarded. Too much responsibility. There is an establishment, the offspring of the oracles said, keeping you down. You know where you want to go but this force is the reason you are not there yet.

Shad’s cards

King of Swords- A person of authority who is evenly judgemental. A decision without prejudice. The King of Swords is not swayed by petty disputes or favoritism. A just leader. Annabel told Shad there was a very heavy influence, this person is or was the reason you are here or are today.

Queen of Pentacles- Insight and understanding. A confident ability to see through the surface and see underlying values. A sure and contemplative person. A person exhibiting a deeper awareness.

Rey’s cards

The Fool- Youthful naivety. Showing optimism. One who charges in to new things and embraces new ideas very easily. The beginning of a new process or journey. Young idealism. Annabel told Rey that his naiveness is what caused all that he is experiencing now.

The Wheel of Fortune- A turn of events. Fate spins off in new directions and fate takes the stage. Chance presents new opportunities for those who seize the day.

Annabel freaked about the readings and politely asked them to leave.

You're not getting out

After battling hoards of undead our adventurers took a moment to rest and to think about their next move. Shad suggested they recover for a bit. But there wasn’t any time to relax, because just through the door Agatha(Yellow Tooth), had heard the entire battle and had used the time to prepared for the heroes.

“I don’t think you are going anywhere,” Agatha cackled as the wall of stone rose up and blocked the entrance to the way out.

Within the main chamber there was a forest. In the ceiling a large glowing crystal provided light to the trees. So the adventurers fought Agatha, 2 cockatrices, a psionic rag doll, and a few vipers. During which the witch turned into a serpentfolk. After a long battle our heroes were finally victorious. They found out that the soulbound doll had part of the soul of May. The other part of the soul was already devoured by Agatha.

They met up Trig, the goblin gardener and agreed on a partnership about the sleeping pollen that he used to make from the flowers that were Agatha’s.

Why did it have to be Snakes?

While at Red Lagoon, when Neblin sent his message to Daric. There was a message already there for the party. Daric as well as others thought that the party could use a little more fire power. I mean when was there ever enough fire power? He said in his message that their new party member would be waiting in the Blink Sloth Pub for them. Shad went off to gamble in hopes of finding the new guy this way. Worm and Oswald got into a cake fight. Zaratash is actually the one who found Rey and Neblin was off doing something… Swim with otters spend most of the time just glaring at Rey who in turn placed his finger on his own lips.

As the party left the pub Peter Wells rushed out and met the adventurers pleading for their assistance. He brought them into his healing establishment to a crying woman named Annabell Weatherbottom. Annabel is the wife of an archeologist, waiting for his return from Yuan Ti ruins in the south. Also she comes from a long line of oracles so it is not unheard of for descendants to have visions. Her daughter had gone missing.

Peter thought that she was kidnapped, because Annabel had a vision of Yellow Tooth, a local witch holding May’s favorite doll. Yellow Tooth is a witch that dwells the jungle woods. Most of the locals treat her just as a crazy, but the natives claim she has been alive for generations she is closer to a legend. Yellow Tooth is known to worship and dapple in the dark arts. This was not the first time she has been known to kidnap people. However she usually sticks with the natives, perhaps she goes tired of them and wish for “civilized” prey.”

The only other clues they had to go on was a knotted necklace that May, the girl, had found the day before. Rey, Shad, and Worm deduced that the necklace was similar to a spellbook with the “random knots” and beads. Swim with otters confirmed this. It was common for the natives to use this systems because they did not have a written language. In the area the girl was last seen there were large snake tracks, but the militia dismissed that because it was very rare for snakes too eat humans.

Annabel begged and pleaded them to find her daughter offering all the artifacts that her husband have ever given to her to the party. This got the party’s attention.

Swim with otters with the help of Shad was able to pin point Yellow Tooth’s hideaway in the Valley of Shadows, a place nestled between two high mountains where plants rarely grow.

In the cave there were many strange encounters. They were a pair of unicorns that were possessed. Shad was able to tell that the fey creatures were probably under some type of mind control. There were also large scorpions that attacked them at the same place. Once they were handled they were tied up and left outside. Once they finished business outside they would be untied.

They were attacked with hallways filled with snakes and dolls with physic powers. The most frightening thing however was the fear inducing pool that had Worm and Oswald fleeing from the room in terror multiple times.

However the most unusual room in the cave was a room that was filled with deadly purple Xatay flowers. Thinking that the goblin gardener in the room was in trouble they tried to set the room on fire. The goblin leapt out from his sleeping position, berated the party as he threw water on his precious employer’s plants. They learned that Agatha was the haling witch’s name. The goblin hadn’t a clue about his boss’s soul sucking habits. He was only paid to take care of the plants, which wasn’t a bad gig.

Then they fought water zombies with giant axes.

In the Jungle, the Mighty Jungle

The dying man was healed by the party. He introduced himself as Peter Wells, a cleric of Pelor and local healer form red Lagoon. While collecting herbs and roots for healing salves he was attacked by bandits. He thanked the party many times and offered to guide them to town. On their way there they passed by a small group of tribal elves who spoke to Shad momentarily warning him about the many dangers of the forest that ranged from man eating plants to venomous dinosaurs.

A few hours later the adventurers arrived in Red Lagoon. Peter thanked them once again and told them if they ever needed assistance he would try to help them in anyway he could. The party headed to the Blink Sloth Pub, where they stopped to rest and have a drink. A large man about Oswald’s size approached them and introduced himself as Tiny Jim, head of security for Eric McWert. After a short exchange they were taken to the banana plantation.

At the plantation the party met Jane and Todd, Eric’s children, and Annie, a yappy dumb dachshund, whom gave Neblin a slight headache. Worm tried to give Todd some advice in chess as he play against his father, which failed. Eric McWert did not waste any time to tell the party what they were up against. There were several issues security haven’t been able to deal with, boars in the fields, man eating plants, monkeys stealing fruit, and bandits who were stealing farm equipment. When all of this was done, Eric agreed he would enter the partnership with House Tharashk.

The party requested materials that would help them with their newly given tasks. Oswald wanted a breastplate, Shad some chainmail, and for Worm and Neblin for spells and materials for alchemist fire. The plantation owner was more than accommodating with these items.

During their time at the blacksmith Michael, they received from information from Winter, the large Clydesdale, that the bandits smelled like earth, but she wasn’t able to get a good look at them because it was quite dark.

In the afternoon the party headed in the direction where the farmhands had run into the man-eating plants. During their excursion they ran into a pack of boars, which were swiftly turned into bacon. Said bacon was used to barter with some baboons and swarms on monkeys, but not before Worm did the following.

“Oh cool monkeys!” Worm ran ahead toward the monkeys.

“They can be aggressive…” Shad started to shout, “Dammit.”

Luckily Neblin was able to barter with the monkeys giving them the boar meat in exchange of stop eating the bananas from the plantation and to drive away other monkeys.

Continuing on the party encountered a tribal elven child, who was separated during a raid. He told Shad that he had snuck into a basket and was carried off accidentally into battle. The child got away because Todd McWert let free from the plantation shed after he had been captured. They found the tribal elves encampment and the party was welcomed inside.

They met with Chief Run with Monkeys, who explained what was really happening with the plantation. They were locked in a conflict, the elven tribe used to own many hundreds of square miles of land before the McWert family had moved here, who claimed they had legal binding papers making them owners of this part of the jungle. The tribe was responsible for the monkeys, boars, man-eating plants, and raids on the plantation. It was the only way they could fight back, the chief said.

The party agreed, if the the tribe would agree to let House Tharashk mine on their lands then they could keep the rest of the jungle. Neblin said he would contract the house and see if they can buy the property outright from the McWerts.

During their time with the tribe the party learned quite a few things. Their was a large ruin called the Death Pit that the local healer Speaks with Trees and his now spider monkey former apprentice Swim with Otters tried to traverse. Unfortunately Swim with Otters was turned into the spider monkey and was stuck that way. Eat Crickets told the adventurers were they could find what sounded like a large dragonshard, though the color of the shard was unlike ones that were known.

The Expendables

Ah Thrane, who doesn’t like a beautiful nation such as this… Well there is the oppressive atmosphere caused by theocratic government. The adventurers travels were temporarily interrupted with the celebration of the Mass of Silver Fire ,of course, performed in Draconic tongue. It wasn’t the only time people stopped, to meditate and reflect on the power and glory of the Silver Flame. What was supposed to be a shorter journey took at least times long.

Thrane was a beautiful city with its white spires with silvery carved artwork. the adventurers vehicles slowed to a halt as they stopped in front of a large house painted white enclosed by black iron fence. It looked more like a simple residence in the Cobblestone District.

A man outside dressed in simple leathers and a giant battle axe guarded the front door. Beside him was a burly half-orc dressed similarly, but along with his armor he wore tribal jewelry. Someone deduced that he was from the Shadow Wastes. The human knocked on the door, calling someone inside. The guard them the newly arrived adventurers to wait in the common room.

During this time they introduced themselves to each other. There was Neblin, the gnome who has two dogs and a large owl with him. He had traveled with Wyrm on the lightning rail. He was quite exciting every now and then saying things about antiquities. Wyrm the goblin just kept on eating cakes that were to him by a hooded figure. There was also a handsome human in leather armor just glancing here and there, who called himself Zaratash.

A few moments later a man dressed in leather armor without his gaunlets entered the room. “I am Daric d’Veldarran, dragonmarked heir to House Tharashk as a few of you may know. Welcome to Flamekeep, lovely city isn’t it? ” Daric sighed, “I had my mornings interrupted by Draconic chanting..LOUDLY…to the Silver flame. Bah, but come in, I have lunch ready. I hope you enjoy roast chicken.”

“Live chicken?” Wyrm asked.

“No my friend, already roast,” Daric led them into a decently furnished dining hall with plates and utensils already set.

“I would’ve rather be meeting in Aundair, but I have business here that must be taken care of," Daric said as he nibbled on his chicken breast."

“So you said you wanted to talk business,” The hooded figure stated.

“Of course,” Daric said and placed his fork down, “I have a task for you. You have all heard of Pondera? The once impenetrable “lands”. As you know business expansion tends to be a very good thing. There is a banana plantation owner named Eric McWert in Red Lagoon, Thames. Recenlty his workers discovered some caves with very unusual minerals.”

Daric reached to his pouch and took out some clear crystals, but when the sunlight hit them the light burst into rainbows, "It is similar to other gems but even more efficient. My mineralogists says there is a lot of potential in this crystal. They hold heat very well and stay cold for an extremely long time. Mr. McWert has agreed to give us a partnership with these mines if I help him first, since it is his land of course. He is having trouble, animal, pests, and bandits on his property. So I want to you guys go to Thames and meet with Mr. McWert, do as he asks, procure acouple more larger samples to study, and when he is satisified with your work, have him sign this contract. I have had it notarized by House Sivis and arcane marked. After you are done, bring it back.“

Wyrm reached for a crystal and tossed it in the fire and observed its properties.

“For transportation I have made arrangements with House Lynrandor. Since the discovery of Pondera, their airship business has boomed. Unfortunately there have been an increased number of high jacking. Those airships are quite expensive as well as their cargo. They are short on marshals and would like you to act as them since you have a decent amount of combat experience," Daric continued.

At that Neblin spat out his water and coughed.

“Your ship will have two stops, first you will stop in Nortek, Ironfast, Pondera’s dwarf country. I would like you to deliver a letter to Thar Williams, he has an outpost in the dwarven capital. Then your ship will stop in Gen, Dighton, from there you will need to go on foot to Red Lagoon, Thames. Just take the main road out of Haven to go there. You cannot miss it. Someone from Mr. McWert’s farm will be around the Blink Sloth Pub for that week to take you to his place. Normally I would sent people of higher position within the house, but we are a little short handed too.This is good opportunity for all of you. Do not disappoint me. We cannot let the other houses know about this crystal.”

The adventurers went to get equipment at a local shop called Kobolds Explosions and Finery, where they were able to negotiate a wand price down if they handed the kobold Adam there a crystal sample. Then they headed to the air port.

The Flamekeep air port was bustling. The Dancing Cloud is on the field. The ship resembled a large word ship with a single thin silver ring hovering, with the ship in the middle. Sailors were loading barrels and crates along with horses and other farm animals on board.

When the adventurers found the captain. She greeted them with a warm welcome. The captain was a half-elven woman with a peg leg and a hook for a hand, who also had an eye patch and a blue parrot on her, “Arg Matey’s put er thar!”

Wyrm shook her hook had. The hook slipped off. The goblin immediately started apologizing. She laughed and shook off the peg leg and the eye patch.

“Can I have that?” Wyrm asked. The captain shurgged and handed it to him. He squeed with delight.

The parrot turned into a rat and the woman said, “My names is Captain Naila Sollin, and this ship is the Dancing Cloud. Come follow me to my quarters we have to talk about your seating arrangements.”

They learned that a daughter of an important member of House Cannith was on board and that is why the added security was necessary.

After they talked about patrolling shifts and such, the adventurers fanned out to check out the ship. The hooded party member quickly became friends with Skull, a sailor on the ship who graceishly shared his alcohol with him. Zaratash got to know a religious mane named Alair. Wyrm made friends with a pink kobold named Spitfire.

Spitfire has a device that he claimed could catch ghosts. When Wyrm flipped it on, it caused an explosion which several other gobliins weren’t so lucky to dodge. The explosions startled some rats on board in the cargo hold to come out of some tainted grain feed boxes meant for House Vadalis hippogriffs on board.

The adventurers quickly dispatched the rats. Several days later they landed in Nortek, Ironfast.
